The School Nutrition staff at Canistota is gearing up for an exciting new school year. We have three big changes to share with you.
A second serving line for lunch! This will speed students through the lunch line, giving them more time to eat, relax, and enjoy their lunch break. The second line will also allow us to return to
Two-entrée menu for grades 3-12. We will also see some new entrees added to the menu, and some old favorites return through the year.
For the upcoming year, we will be moving to a single lunch price. All student lunches will be $3.50, to reflect the actual cost of elementary meals. Elementary portions for entrees are almost always the same as the older students. They have the same protein requirements. They also have the same access to the fruit & vegetable bar and hot vegetables. Honestly, they can eat just as much as our high school athletes! It takes a lot of fuel to learn and grow every day.

If the cost of meals is a burden to your family budget, I completely understand! Help is available through the Free and Reduced Price Meals program. Even if you do not think you will qualify, please apply for this program! It is completely confidential.
The more families who qualify and use the Free and Reduced Price Meals program, the more funding the school nutrition program receives. This also helps us qualify for additional items, such as the Summer Meals programs, and equipment grants. It would be wonderful if every family who could qualify for the Free and Reduced Price Meals program would use it! Please reach out to Mrs. Miller or Mrs. Andersen with any questions. There is an application attached to this email, on our website, and available in our office.
